Asthma is a common disease that can be found in people of any age group. This is a condition when air passages in the lungs become narrow and may produce extra mucus. This can make breathing difficult and trigger coughing, a whistling sound (wheezing) when breathing out and shortness of breath.


For some people, asthma can be a nuance. But for some, it can be severe. A major asthma attack can be life-threatening. Asthma is a chronic condition, which means it can be cured. But fortunately, all the symptoms can be taken under control. We need to learn about the probable reasons for having asthma -


  • In most cases, asthma comes from blood relatives. Especially close relatives like parents or older siblings.

  • People with allergic conditions are more likely to have asthma.

  • Living in a place with heavy air pollution for a long time can cause asthma.

  • Excessive obesity also causes asthma.


According to GlobalAsthmaReport.org Among India’s 1.31 billion people, about 6% of children and 2% of adults have asthma. The symptoms of asthma increase or decreases depending on the various conditions. Nowadays there are few treatments to reduce the symptoms of asthma. These are-


  • Anti-inflammatory medicines: These medicines reduce swelling and mucus production in the lungs - making the air easier to enter and exit.

  • Bronchodilators: These medicines open the airways of the lungs. It helps air and excess mucus to move easily.

  • Physiotherapy: Physiotherapy helps a lot when excessive mucus jams the airways.
