Panchakarma creates the inner space necessary for healing, detoxification, and renewal. Below are the five therapies linked to their elements.
Air (Vayu) – Nasya - Cleansing of the nasal passages and head region. Nasya helps improve breathing, mental clarity, sensory perception, and the free flow of Prana (life force). Nasya improves pranic flow, therefore Air.
Fire (Agni) – Virechana - Therapeutic purgation that cleanses the liver, gallbladder, and digestive tract. It helps remove excess heat, toxins, and inflammatory conditions associated with excess Pitta.
Water (Jala) – Raktamokshana - Blood purification therapies aimed at removing impurities from the bloodstream. Since blood is predominantly associated with the water principle, this procedure represents cleansing and renewal of the body's fluid systems. (Associated with Svadhisthana Chakra)
Earth (Prithvi) – Basti - Medicated enemas that cleanse and nourish the colon, the primary seat of Vata. Basti strengthens the body's foundation, supports elimination, and restores stability. Basti restores grounding and stability, therefore Earth.
