Major Ayurvedic Doctrines

Ayurveda is founded on a set of timeless doctrines that explain the relationship between the human body, nature, and the universe. These principles form the philosophical and scientific framework of Ayurvedic medicine. Together, they explain how health is maintained, how disease develops, and how balance can be restored.

Most of these doctrines originate from the Vedas and the philosophical tradition of Sankhya. They were systematically compiled and explained by great Ayurvedic scholars such as Atreya, Agnivesha, Charaka, Sushruta, and Vagbhata.

Understanding these doctrines provides the foundation for studying Ayurvedic physiology, pathology, diagnosis, preventive healthcare, nutrition, pharmacology, and lifestyle management.

The Core Doctrines of Ayurveda

1. Loka-Purusha Samya Siddhanta

The doctrine of Loka-Purusha Samya states that the human being (Purusha) is a microcosm of the universe (Loka). The same natural laws that govern the cosmos also govern the human body. This principle forms the basis of Ayurveda's holistic approach to health and establishes the connection between environmental health and human health.
