Prostate Cancer

The prostate is a small walnut-shaped gland in males that produces the seminal fluid that nourishes sperm. When cells in the prostate gland start to grow uncontrollably, we call it prostate cancer. It is the most common type of cancers found in men in the entire United States.

Most of the times, prostate cancer grows slowly – confined only in the prostate gland without causing much harm. But when it gets detectable, in that stage the cancer may have been spread severely. However, while some types of prostate cancer grow slowly and may need minimal or even no treatment, other types are aggressive and can spread quickly.

Prostate cancer may not show any signs in its early stages. But as the cancer advances, it starts to show some symptoms like:

  • Trouble urinating
  • Decreased force in the stream of urine
  • Blood in the urine
  • Blood in the semen
  • Bone pain
  • Losing weight without trying
  • Erectile dysfunction

Doctors have proven that the main cause of prostate cancer is a change in DNA of prostate gland cells. [THIS PART NEEDS TO BE FILLED LATER]

If detected early prostate cancer is very much curable with multiple ways of treatment. Some of the known treatments are – chemotherapy, radiation, hormone therapy and radiation. According to Statista, the cases between 2009 and 2021 has increased about 29.52% in men, in the USA.
