Farsightedness (Hyperopia)

Farsightedness (Hyperopia)

Far sightedness, also known as hyperopia or hypermetropia, is an eye disorder where light focuses behind, instead of on, the retina. This causes close objects to appear blurry while distant objects still appear normal. This happens either when the lens becomes too flat or distance between the lens and the retina becomes shorter than usual.

Few symptoms of farsightedness are:

  • Objects at a close distance may appear blurry
  • To clearly see, one need to squint eyes
  • You have eyestrain, including burning eyes, and aching in or around the eyes
  • You have general eye discomfort or a headache after doing close tasks, such as reading, writing, computer work or drawing, for a time
